The Substance - The Picture of Dorian Grey but for the 21st Century

I have no words except wow....

This isn't a review this is a, I-just-watched-this-movie-and-I-need-to-sell-you-on-this blog.

Imagine commenting on the harsh beauty standards that society has towards women (particularly towards aging woman) except make it a nasty, gorey, gross, (kinda?) slasher film.

Letterboxd reviews said it best, "This is Barbie for people who listen to Charli xcx and have a high tolerance for blood."

I WISH I was at a packed cinema for this movie, damn. This blog isn't well written at all, this is all stream of consciousness because I literally just finished watching this movie. If you've played Inside, do you remember the blob? That, except it's a woman. WOW, wow, wow, wow.

I have never really been grossed out to the point where I was almost puking, not until this! Give me a few weeks and I'll maybe write a proper review with an analysis on theme, etc.

But for now, holy shit!!!

Watch this if you like any of these movies (not really based on theme, based on VIBE):
- Jennifer's Body
- It's What's Inside
- Warm Bodies
- Last Night in Soho
- Perfect Blue
- Ginger Snaps
- Pearl
- Welcome to the Dollhouse

PS. That scene before she (demi moore) is about to go on a date and keeps changing her outfit and then goes insane, rips out her hair a little and ends up skipping the date to sulk in her bed is so real. I felt so so bad for her in that scene because she looked so good mama but she kept on comparing herself to herself. UGH, WOW!!!
