Movies coming to 2025

28 Years Later

I did not see this coming: a sequel to 28 Days Later, the film that launched Cillian Murphy's career. While I'm definitely curious and excited to see where they take this story, I can't help but wonder—why revive a movie that's been a cult classic for 23 years?

The trailer, I'll admit, was fantastic. But with the endless wave of reboots and sequels these days, I’m cautiously optimistic. On the bright side, the film has a real opportunity to explore timely themes. The original offered such a fresh take on zombies, and with our collective experience of pandemics, sickness, and quarantines, there's plenty of room for a poignant and relevant story.

That said, I’ve been burned before by sequels and reboots that felt unnecessary, and I'm wary of ruining what made 28 Days Later such a standout in the first place. So, while I’m eager to watch, I’m tempering my excitement with a fair amount of trepidation.

Companion

Before I knew anything about this movie, it immediately jumped onto my must-watch list. Why? Well, first of all, look at this poster.

At first glance, the poster screams rom-com vibes with the red text and soft pink background.

It’s a style you see in so many rom-com posters: a simple layout, a white or pastel background, and maybe the lead couple as the focus. But this one does something clever. It plays into that simplicity to mislead you.

After watching the trailer, it’s clear this is far from a rom-com. Simple, sweet, misleading. I think from the poster and title alone, it also suggests some of the themes of the movie.

Then there’s Sophie Thatcher as the lead. She’s absolutely dominating the thriller genre right now. From Yellowjackets to Blink and Heretic, every project she picks seems to have an edge, and her performances never disappoint. Honestly, I trust her taste in roles—if she’s in it, I’m in.

From the trailer, it looks like the story revolves around a robot companion, giving off vibes similar to Fresh (2022). A horror thriller about modern relationships and technology? It feels eerily relevant, and I’m completely intrigued.

Death of a Unicorn

Now that was one hell of a trailer. In just a few minutes, it sets up the entire premise and nails the major themes. The story follows a father-daughter duo who accidentally hit a unicorn with their car while en route to the dad’s boss, Leopold. They quickly discover that the unicorn has miraculous curative properties—cancer included.
‘Cancer? That’s the main one!’
The film seems to dive headfirst into exploring the exploitative nature of capitalism, and I’m genuinely excited to see how far they push that concept. Will Poulter, who is somehow ridiculously jacked now, absolutely shines in the trailer and delivers some great comedic beats.

Also, have you seen the poster?

‘They’re going to make a killing.’ Absolute genius.
